Information, Hotels, Resorts and Villas
|
|
St. Barthelemy,
nicknamed St. Barths or St Barts, is located fifteen
miles southeast of is St. Martin and forty miles
north of St. Kitts. The island was named for Columbus's
brother Bartolomeo. From 1800-1877 the island
belonged to Sweden, but since 1878 it has been
part of France.
This tiny island
is six miles long and has 5000 residents. There
are numerous secluded coves and twenty great beaches.
The south coast has two beaches, Anse du Gouverneur
and Anse de Grande Saline. Both have bright white
sand that slopes gently into the ocean.
Some of the activities
in St. Barths are windsurfing, yacht rentals for
day sails, deep-sea fishing, and snorkeling. Scuba
diving on the offshore reefs is excellent. There
are a number of fine restaurants offering gourmet
dining on the island. Shopping is duty free and
perfumes, liquors, watches, linen and crystal
are excellent buys.
